Marina Bay Street Circuit, Singapore circuit details

The Singapore circuit is a street circuit that joined the F1 calendar in 2008 and was the first Formula 1 night race. It is the second slowest race of the year. For 2023 four corners were removed leaving 17 corners and an increase in lap distance from 61 to 62 laps. For 2024 an additional DRS zone was added to try and increase overtaking opportunities on a track that is notoriously difficult to overtake on.

2024

Race winner: Lando Norris McLaren
Lando Norris dominated the race leading all the way from pole position. Max Verstappen had a solid drive for second and Oscar Piastri helped increase McLaren's lead in the constructors championship with a good third place. Ferrari had a difficult qualifying and Nico Hulkenberg dove a good race to keep Sergio Perez behind him.

2023

Race winner: Carlos Sainz Jr Ferrari
Carlos Sainz won from pole position ahead of Lando Norris in the McLaren and Lewis Hamilton in the Mercedes. Max Verstappen had a poor qualifying but recovered to 5th.

2022

Race winner: Sergio Perez Red Bull
Charles Leclerc took pole position for Ferrari in a damp qualifying finishing the race second to the Red Bull of Sergio Perez. Behind them is carnage and safety cars mixing up the rest of the field. Mistakes in qualifying and the race left Max Verstappen back in 7th and an error from Lewis Hamilton left him in 9th.

Race winner: Sebastian Vettel Ferrari
Sebastian Vettel won from team mate Charles Leclerc who had started on pole position with Max Verstappen third in the Red Bull.

2018

Race winner: Lewis Hamilton Mercedes
Lewis Hamilton won from pole position whilst his main rival Sebastian Vettel finished third after another poor strategic call left him behind the Red Bull of Max Verstappen.

2017

Race winner: Lewis Hamilton Mercedes
Lewis Hamilton won from Daniel Ricciardo in a Red Bull. Sebastian Vettel, Max Verstappen and Raikkonen Raikkonen all retired early after a first lap collision.

2016

Race winner: Nico Rosberg Mercedes
Nico Rosberg won from pole position after being pushed hard by Daniel Ricciardo in the Red Bull. Sebastian Vettel finished 5th after starting from the back of the grid due to penalties for changing gearbox and engine parts.

2015

Race winner: Sebastian Vettel Red Bull
Sebastian Vettel took pole position in 2015 as the first non Mercedes power car on pole this year with Daniel Ricciardo putting his Red Bull on the front row as the Mercedes were off the pace. Sebastian Vettel was back to his best as he won from pole with Daniel Ricciardo second. Lewis Hamilton retired with car problems but Nico Rosberg could only finish fourth as the Mercedes failed to get their tyres to perform. McLaren were hoping for a good race as engine power is not so important on this twisting street circuit, but both cars retired when in points scoring positions. Torro Rosso had a solid race with both cars in the top ten. Unfortunately the race was disrupted by a spectator getting on to the track and causing the safety car to be deployed.

2014

Race winner: Lewis Hamilton Mercedes
Lewis Hamilton took pole position in 2014 ahead of Nico Rosberg and the two Red Bull cars. Nico Rosberg had a technical problem on the way to the grid and retired early in the race. Lewis Hamilton pulled out a lead which was closed down under a safety car period, but the pace of the Mercedes gave him the win to over take Nico Rosberg in the driver championship. The Red Bull's of Sebastian Vettel and Daniel Ricciardo were second and third as the rest of the points paying places were determined by managing tyre wear around the safety car periods.

2013

Race winner: Sebastian Vettel Red Bull
Sebastian Vettel won again in 2013 from pole position from Fernando Alonso and Kimi Raikkonen who started 13th after problems in qualifying. Mark Webber had a possible podium finish until his caught fire with a lap to go. there was plenty of overtaking towards the end as different cars were on different tyres due to the timing of a safety car.

2012

Race winner: Sebastian Vettel Red Bull
In 2012 Sebastian Vettel won again in Singapore from Jenson Button after Lewis Hamilton retired with a mechanical failure and after two incidents leading to the safety car being used. Paul DiRresta had his best result so far of his career finishing fourth for Force India

Sebastian Vettel won in 2011 from Jenson Button after Lewis Hamilton had a coming coming together with Felipe Massa.

Fernando Alonso won the 2010 race from pole position, holding off the challenge of the Red Bull's of Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber

The 2009 race race was won by Lewis Hamilton in his McLaren from pole position.

2008

Race winner: Fernando Alonso Renault
The race was won by Fernando Alonso for Renault after Nelson Piquet Jr crashed. However during 2009 it was admitted that Nelson Piquet Jr crashed deliberately to allow Alonso to win.
